Over 4,000 tickets issued in Orillia as speed cameras nab fast drivers

Is there a petition supporting the speed cameras? I'd like to sign. I further believe that the cameras should capture the driver's face, so demerit points could be applied where applicable. 100 km in a 40 km zone and still on the road; outrageous!

Stupidity reigns supreme. No one should be surprised, just disappointed.

This and other proposals underestimate parking needs. Street parking should not be considered a valid solution for storing extra vehicles.

It would be great if the camera system could capture the driver's face, too. Then demerit pointy could be applied, in addition to the fine. For those calling this a money grab, isn't it a better way to raise needed funds than raising taxes? Someone should pay the horrendous medical costs of traffic victims. Why not those who ignore traffic laws?

I believe these "last mile" delivery companys use the Uber business model, where drivers are independent contractors, paid by delivery and expected to provide their own vehicle. Not a very desirable scenario for anyone, IMO.

Developers are allowed to run roughshod over any government rules. Expect a minor fine for this transgression and no change to the roadway. With the push for more housing, the situation will get worse.

I've been saying and writing for a generation that power line should all be buried, just like we do with oil and natural gas supplies. Sure it's more expensive upfront, but the horrendous costs of these interruptions would be avoided. I suspect it would be less costly long term.

It's a factory. I imagine it produces noise and smells. I would expect them to be within legal pollution limits, but the facility also produces jobs, taxes, and needed productivity for our province and country. I would expect anyone buying in the area to do due diligence prior to purchase.Of course, if they are circumventing pollution bylaws with municipal foot- dragging, that's another matter. It will be interesting to see what the court concludes.

No one should have to endure aggression and disrespect in the workplace. Staff should feel safe at all times. Loud, belligerent bullies ought to lose the privilege of entry to municipal buildings. In a sad statement about the times in which we live, I see the OPP often accompanying bylaw officers responding to behavioral complaints. It is disheartening to see civil behavior in decline. I have neither causes nor remedies to offer.

All comments and this article make a great case for buying an EV, particularly if your driving is mostly local. There is a lot of selection, and dealers are anxious to move them off their lots. I'm not there yet but it might suit many others.

In the meantime, a "no left turn" sign for people exiting from Orchard Point would make everyone safer. Drivers would have to go over the bridge and return from the signaled intersection on the East side, but that maneuver would take less than five minutes. Much better than waiting up to 15 minutes and risking lives! There will eventually be signals at that intersection, further slowing traffic. It's the way of the world.

They went to great lengths to ensure shopper safety. If this person was charged and ordered to close her business, I suspect she was not masking or following the recommended safety measures. Those details are not given but may be available in archived news articles.

As Dennis mentioned, parking has been ignored. Our cultural norm is a vehicle for every person. Will the planners and developers be able to force cultural change by removing parking spaces? Experience in the West Ridge subdivision would seem to say "No." Many of those streets are jammed with parked cars.

This is an unfortunate decision for council to make. It should be working to replace fireworks displays with non polluting alternatives, like laser and drone shows with music. Highly polluting, disruptive fireworks have no legitimate place in a forward-looking society.

I don't believe that Trump was offended by the ad. Progress was being made in negotiations and Trump would use any excuse to derail that progress. No deal is a good deal for Canada. Time is on our side.

The main alternative fighter, from Sweden, would have more Canadian content and would be totally built in Canada, including for export. That jet is superior in some aspects and better suited for our huge country in range. Additionally, our forces would have control of the software. Without that control, Trump could turn our expensive fighters into fancy lawn ornaments. Smarter people than me will make the final decision, but I would hate to see us spend so much money and have the system controlled by a malign foreign government.

Lazy thinking. Get US platforms out of our lives. Use mass emailing if important and local media for less urgent information.

It's great to hear a sane voice among all the misinformation and bumper-sticker politics we suffer daily.

Bury the lines. Wires on poles represent "penny-wise, pound-foolish" thinking. We'll do this again in a few years (or sooner).

Why only in Community Safety Zones? Is the speed limit not the speed limit?
