Cycling advocates warn there will be more angry drivers this winter

Totally fine for you to feel that way - just don't be upset when cyclists are in the middle of the road this winter. They are entitled to use the road too, according to the law, so be sure to drive safe around them!

"Or was it the year they started handing out participaction ribbons and entitlement was a lifestyle."The only entitlement I seem to see is drivers feeling they are entitled to drive as fast as they want wherever and whenever they want. Today's headlines alone include "Vehicle clocked doing 134 km/h in 60 km/h zone" and "Driver had more than twice legal limit of alcohol in his system" followed by my favorite - "Driver flees after crashing into hydro pole"But bicycles, and the infrastructure for people who choose to ride them year-round, are definitely the entitlement here?

So we should have no bike lanes whatsoever because it snows 4 months a year? Should we rip up all the parks too, since we can't use baseball diamonds in the winter? Better get rid of all the skating rinks too, since we can't use those in the summer, right? It's a real tragedy that motorists will have to drive a bit more carefully on this street in the winter.

Please explain how a decision to dismantle rent protections in Ontario by Doug Ford's government is the responsibility of the Federal Liberal Party. And for what it's worth, the majority of Ontarians may not have voted for Mike Schreiner, but the majority of your fellow Guelph citizens did. For a reason!

Exactly - not terribly challenging, and yet somehow many in Guelph, and many in our Provincial Government, seem in capable of taking accountability for their own actions.

"to help get shovels in the ground faster on homes and other local infrastructure projects"Ah, there it is. It's been nice having competent leadership managing our conservation areas. Can't wait to see the Ford government apply their special blend of greed and incompetence to this project as they have with healthcare, education, and affordable housing.

Please elaborate on the Federal Government's cash grab - what cash exactly are they grabbing?

"thus making certain drivers even more a risk, especially on the chicane of curves from Wilsonview to Stone"Or drivers could drive more slowly since road conditions are not ideal? Why is it always everyone's responsibility but drivers to ensure drivers are always safe?

"invasion of new people flooding the market" is also some pretty loaded language. Who would you describe as these 'invaders' in your opinion?

If drivers are so distracted by road signs that they cannot focus on driving, perhaps they should not be driving. I drive regularly. It's not difficult to drive safely.

"They need to share the road, per the Highway act.. dont like it, get the highway act changed"I'll gladly ride my bike in the middle of the road and slow traffic down for everyone if that's what you would prefer.

"I’ve seen bicyclists ride on a sidewalk in plain view of GPS and B/L, didn’t see them getting chased down and ticketed."I see a lot of motorists put their four-ways on and park in bike lanes every day too, which GPL and B/L do nothing about. Complain to the police service about lack of enforcement rather than removing infrastructure for the people who do follow the rules.

I don't - tell me why?

Do you support the Ford government's plan to strip renters of protections against rent increases?

My family owns one car, and has only ever owned one car. Not everyone requires more than one.

I work and live downtown. Lots of people have kids and bring kids to downtown. Sorry yours are missing out on that experience.

We want to ensure that landlords aren't using minor renovations as an excuse to kick long-term tenants out and charge more money for the apartment.

"Sorry Jennifer, but if one wants to spout off about helping people, do a little bit from your heart, not your wallet. The financials from B Be, is an example of the "old style" of fundraising: more to Admin than the cause itself. The "industry" of poverty disgusts me."The people who devote their working lives to helping people also need to pay their rent and feed their families. Sorry that not everyone is so fabulously wealthy that they can make altruism their full-time job. B Be's financial breakdown also fails to mention that salaries dropped between 2023 and 2024 - by over $70k. So they have already reduced either their head count or their salaries according to the exact same financial statement. The 'industry' of poverty has nothing to do with organizations paying the people who support vulnerable communities a living wage so their own staff don't have to depend on their own support services to survive.

Costs for staffing goes beyond just salaries and benefits. Staff need technology and software licenses in order to do their jobs, which costs money. There are also overhead costs for benefits, memberships, etc. that are averaged out across yearly salary estimates in order to ensure they are covered. Two full-time staff and two part-time staff costing $300k isn't a massive ask. And staff have likely arrived at that number by analyzing potential caseload based on the number of renoviction complaints we're already seeing in Guelph - considering we have someone literally nicknamed the 'King of Renoviction' operating in our city, I assume that's greater than zero: https://www.guelphtoday.com/local-news/the-king-of-renoviction-speaks-brant-ave-residents-in-waiting-mode-10004725

Ah yes, the convenience of being able to arrive in Toronto at either 9:35 a.m. or 5:35 p.m. on a Saturday, or arriving back in Guelph at either 6:38 p.m. and 12:38 a.m.I feel overwhelmed by the bounty of options laid before me. Thanks, Metrolinx.
