This rezoning was not actually discussed until after the third reading was past. In fact, the city did not discuss thus whatsoever in the September council meeting as this followed Crossroads owners plea to the city and it was clearly evident they didn't ask ANY questions to administrator. Nevermind that Ms. Sinclair is 'does not have the time or mental space' to reply to a journalist a) how does she handle parental and northern health concerns, and b) is that why she didn't post the required by bylaw signage to notify the neighbors of her intention? Just because the OCP allows it, doesn't mean we have to do it. Especially with two other more appropriate locations asking got rezoning in the same space. Not sure why residents are being asked to pay for the lacking diligence from the city and the applicant.
I largely agree with where you are coming from. The fat needs to be cut from administration and internal processes need to be managed to save money and prevent yearly 6% tax increases.
So basically rhe vendor is saying they can't manage process and are asking the public to pay. It's interesting that such things were not factored into the usage contract.Additionally, having VIP parking closer than accessible parking is a highly questionable practice under the accessible BC act and can't believe that is in any way acceptable practice.
This is one of the main concerns of the residents of the street. Under the rezoning bylaw the facility needs to have nine off street parking spaces to accomodate staff and attendees. In the winter the road becomes extremely narrow and is a P3 plow route which means it is often a mess. In fact, on neighbor with a bobcat often maintains it himself due to the lacking diligence.
UNBC has higher costs for management and administration that any comparable Canadian facility by over two times the cost. Do they need to pull out of the reserve funds? Nope cause if they could manage these admin costs to the same level as 'like' providers it would save them 23 million a year.
Just saying - I did far more research than the city did on this. The average property value on this street in the Hart is HALF of the bowl. Property values go up based on Highest Bid Unit. So zone at RM1 they get an automatic 3% property value increase. I know the other hart owners who maintained the character of the neighbourhood by putting a protective covenant on their property during the rezoning. Also, at the bylaw passing, the city could have recinded this to do more research (but administration conveniently didn't let council know this could be done). If you are a professional and want to have an actual conversation, that isn't just about a daycare and actually about poor process, I am happy to.
I have been volunteering to build courses with the club for the race events for the last few seasons and it's shocking how little snow they can work with. However, this is a good call for those travelling from afar as many do show show up early for these events. Really sad for our network of volunteers who absolutely love spending their time out there and our community who lose the economic values these events bring in.
This will NEVER happen. If the city could manage money our bills wouldn't increase $120 a year for utilities or $160 a year average for taxes (and the increases continue....) The average person in PG can't afford this administration anymore and it has nothing to do with unions. We have a municipal election coming. I highly encourage everyone to get out and vote.
As a safety measure, I believe that the city should be installing guard posts at every left turn on Ospika to prevent cars from overtaking those turning by using the dedicated bike lane. Especially in thie high density locations such as the one where Mr. Kelly sustained his life ending injuries. There have already been near misses here prior to this event. I don't always give props to the city, but seeing the flagging come in around events are CN Center gives me hope we can facilitate meaningful changes to safety in our city.
Council can't do anything without the administrative staff fully pulling the wool over their eyes. You want a different community? Then we have to get out and vote for something different next round.
Curious as to why Administrative Director Eric Depenau standing on the Legion Executive Board wasn't presented as a conflict of interest to any grant applications submitted to the city? Oversight? Likely not.
This is a prime example of why we just need to go to blind hiring. Bias, bias, everywhere. We had wage transparency laws for years and due to sociological power embalances they were not acted on. This is a pretty low one at the end of the day so this is an easy fix.
Especially in the area of Evanoff Park, which is named such due to the man who was.... Killed by a Grizzly. This area has known aggressive genetics and people need to hike in groups and take great care out there.
