When our long term ally and trading partner becomes unreliable, we need to diversify. IMO, it’s good to see action on that front, as opposed to just rhetoric. We need to stop bending the knee and placating the King in the South. If the other 96% of the world's population would cooperate and isolate/sanction the US, they may start to play nice. Use the same tactics on them that they like to use on so many other countries. They may be rich and powerful, but they are not capable of taking on the entire rest of the globe.
It's too bad the other 96% of the world's population couldn't cooperate and isolate/sanction the US until they start to play nice, like they like to do to so many other countries. They may be rich and powerful, but they are not capable of taking on the entire rest of the globe.
Pre-Trump, the EPA had set enforceable drinking water limits of 4ng/L for PFOA/PFOS. Trout Lake Drinking Water tests at an average of 3.6/28.4, with total PFAS ranging between 46.6 and 64.7, I would say that there is a lot more work to be done. It seems that no level is safe. The scope needs to include private systems and disposal of comtaminated filters/media.Whichever level of government is responisble, needs to look at the health stats and illness/disease linked to PFAS. We have been drinking contaminated water since the seventies (and if the numbers are high now, how high were they then!). I know so many people who have things that get labeled as auto-immune issues or athletes that have cardio vascular issues or kidney/diabetes, all of which have links to PFAS. We need answers on how this has affected our health and the health of our loved ones.
Look in the parking lot. The old dock is piled up there, taking up the very limited parking spaces. The city has not put it in for years, though I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it. But somehow, they have the time, space and budget for this new one? Or does it stay in place for the winter??They could have added a couple of sections to the old one and saved some money...
Translated from German"Based on its own so-called originality to its people, the 'national’ civilization doesn't intend to stay confined in its country (.../..) but it feels the need to make other people happy in going to them and imposing itself by force."Albert Schweitzer
Nice that they will fund upgrades for the Municipal Water Treatment Plant, but who's going to fund the testing and remediation for people that get their water directly from Delaney Bay?The lawsuit needs to be expanded. One only has to look at the health stats on the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit website to see that this affected the entire population.
I think you are mixing up the EPA with the FDA. Two different organizations. I was talking about people who lead healthy lifestyles, are athletes and have weird helath issues, not pop swilling, chip eating, smokers. Check out the stats at our local health unit and it could change your mind. I never said that there is a direct link, but there seems to be convincing circumstantial evidence.
@TroutlakeWe have been drinking contaminated water since the 70's. Look at the stats on the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit website: there are higher incidences of Diabetes-Related and Hypertension-Related Hospitalizations and Deaths, both which have links to PFAS. The Report: Adult Mortality (Death) also shows the number of adult deaths before age 75 (premature mortality rate) and adult mortality rates due to injury or diseases of the circulatory system "were among the highest in the province".Is this proof? No, but someone should filter the stats to just North Bay and see if the picture is even bleaker. Convincing circumstantial evidence.
Do our elected leaders pay attention to the news? We're have affordability crisis and a goal to keep inflation below 2%. You need a fourth option: none of the above.
The City hides behind the MECP interim guidelines. They know that it will take decades to reduce PFAS in our drinking water. We have been drinking contaminated water since the 70's. Look at the stats on the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit website: there are higher incidences of Diabetes-Related and Hypertension-Related Hospitalizations and Deaths, both which have links to PFAS. No, but someone should filter the stats to just North Bay and see if the picture is even bleaker. Convincing circumstantial evidence.Whatever the 3 levels of government are doing, it is not enough. The water should be cleaned up and the citizens compensated for the adverse health effects and premature loss of loved ones. Class Action Lawsuit?
How can people give this a thumbs down? There needs to be accountability and resolution for an issue that was not of our making. As someone directly affected, I agree 100%. The private water systems on the two creeks and Trout Lake need to be part of the scope. And someone needs to provide a solution for all of the contamintaed filters or it will all just leach back into the ground water and, eventually, our water supply.
@rwrhAs far as getting the lake water tested, that has already been done and the data is available: https://northbay.ca/services-payments/water-wastewater/drinking-water/water-quality-reports/During the information sessions, it was explained that Delaney Bay is the worst and the numbers are fairly consistent around the Bay.The testing for PFAS is quite expensive...
Agree 100%. Please keep pushing and let us know what we can do to assist you. I think that our MPP Vic Fedeli needs to be putting pressure on Todd McCarthy, Ontario's Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to adopt Health Canada's objective. Then the City, DND, would not have a leg to stand on.Private water systems treatment & testing (like for E. coli and total coliform), disposal of used (contaminated) media/filters and a comprehensive health study are the outstanding issues that need to be addressed.Thank you Carol, Liza, everyone at the TLCA and Brennain at Northwatch!
@coffee_cupNot trying to cash in. Trying to get the responsible party to fix an issue that they created. There are some excellent sources that talk of the dangers of PFAS and the information sessions that have been held provided a lot of valuable information. Just because we're all going to die sometimes, doesn't mean that we should stick our heads in the sand and hope for the best.
@jknows: At least it's a start. What would you have us do? Sit on our hands?FYI: We already have a trade deal with the US (USCMA). How's that working for us? It will be much worse when it expires. You want us to bend a knee to The King of the South? Not for me thanks.Altogether, the rest of the world hold ~ $12 Trillion in US assets. They shoud use them.
