Unfortunately, we are not dealing with a sane, nor informed President. With him , the rules of law are not respected, sovereign nations are threatened, he "justified" murder and operating as terrorists themselves. From a phycological perspective, the president is frankly delusionistic, a pathological liar and a bully, but worse still, seems to be slipping into mental illness, or senile dementia. Add to this, his supporters essentially drank the lemonaide, as the USA is becoming more of a cult, than a government and democracy has been essentially been eroded from American soil. Therefore, ruling out a takeover of Greenland and then Canada, as the next piece on the chessboard, is potentially a lethal mistake, of almost the same order of magnitude as his greed. Canada has far more strategic importance than Greenland. We have a wealth of raw materials, minerals, power, the NW Passage, a far more relevant frontage to Russia and a huge source of fresh water. We have what he wants.
The connection is oh so important. The Pope was a man of compassion and truth. When I read of his meeting with Vance and how he had previously condemned the USA for its path of deporting those who took refuge from war, abuse or economic hardships in that country previously. His final message (although not given by himself, due to his frailty) again called for the protection and compassion of those migrants. Although, not a Catholic, his last written words spoke volumes to me, as he was a man of true faith and kindness. Rest in Peace and thank you for your wisdom and guidance in these times.
I vowed to not post again, but this is a slap in the face to our country. It's one thing to play Mr. Toughguy, for which we all applauded you. However now, to kneel down to Trump at the first shot over the bow, is a sign of weakness, or worse, kowtowing to his idol. Ford said he wanted a mandate to fight Trump, yet he buckles under. We can not win, with a such a show of weakness. Mr. Ford, you are a disgrace to this proud country.
Canada's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are the 12th largest globally, even though in 2022, Canada's emissions were the lowest in 25 years, excluding the pandemic years, at 708 Mt. (The worst emitters are 1st China, 2nd USA, then 3rd India … Canada 12th) Although forests can consume heavy metals and ‘some’ carcinogens from the environment, primarily through their root systems and to a lesser extent, through their aerial parts, these pollutants still live on and accumulate in plant tissues, entering the food chain and impacting wildlife and human health …many of those pollutants can live forever ! Saying our forest ‘consume’ pollution and greenhouse gases, is distorting the truth, as it really means they ‘ABSORD’, not ‘REMOVE’ ! That is a huge difference in the outcome, with a terrifying future. Remember that next time you catch a fish for dinner, near a northern Ontario mining, steel making, or industrial area.
Ford did the very same thing just before the last election. He came to the Sault, shovel in hand and had all sorts of photos made of him breaking the ground for a new and very much needed, Long Term Care home on the old Davey Home site. Guess what, his government has still never issued the licence to build it. It appeared his "announcement", was all smoke and mirrors to get votes. Vote for someone who will actually do what they say.
This pledge from the Conservatives, echo those of Trump. Pushing through the Ring of Fire, without due process is such an example. They are only concerned with money, yet ignore those who have the most at stake, the several First Nations who live there. To quote from January this year..."There has been considerable pushback from several First Nations in the area that are against mining claims and exploration activities on their traditional territories. They argue these claims have been executed without their free, prior and informed consent.""There are also a number of open cases against the Ontario government over the duty to consult in northern Ontario's mining sector, as well as a legal action over the province's online claim staking program and its regulatory processes."One can not do this in six months and stating they can, just becomes something else which will fail, evidenced by the lack the proper respect and recognition for those who matter most.
My God, it appears we have MAGA in Canada, when I read your comments. She stood up for democracy directly against the ever theatening Trump and now she is going to do that directly against Putin. All your 'convey' people look in mirror and ask yourself if you have the guts to travel to the Ukraine as an advisor. If you have her resolve and guts, sign up ! You have to understand that democracy and civilisation are at risk right now, with Trump and Putin wanting to rule the world. Your issues are petty in comparison. We have to stand together for the common good and respect the rule of law, as without it, we will devolve back into the wild, wild west or far, far worse. Perhaps read the real news (not the propaganda) and look at the life we live here, or would you rather live in a holding cell with no mattress, one blanket, on a concrete floor ?
Trump is on a collision course for not only the destruction of the USA, but it appears he has brainwashed Canadians with his untruthes and chaos, which has become extremely detrimental to our country. What happened to the empathetic, polite, welcoming, rational country I was born into ? This is Canada ! Only a short year or so ago, were the most liked, friendly and caring country in the world, but like the USA, many have jumped into our own Trump replicating divisive politics. How can PP, a Trump echo chamber, stand up to Trump ? Impossible...he is MiniMe already. If we go that way, the USA will welcome us with open arms, then steal our resources, take away our healthcare, our freedom of speech, our multiculturalism and our ability to research real science and we'll become the 'Hunger Games' State.
'dailywalk' I believe you may have missed the irony in your statement. The Green candidate is a northerner, albeit from Sudbury. However, the Conservative candidate, is a fly-in Conservative staffer, who worked in the Sault for a member of Parliament, who is from Kemptville and for the past two years has worked in Toronto, as a Ford staffer. A logical analysis of those two would yield a similar result. Neither are Sault residents, but the Green candidate was born and grew up in northern Ontario, whereas the conservative candidate is from a town 50kms south of Ottawa, and doesn't live here either. The Green candidate brings very important life lessons to the position, since he was brought up in social housing. In my estimation, he is therefore more informed with one of the pivotal issues in Ontario today, that of a critical shortage of affordable housing. May I also remind you, Canadians are polite and your comment was far from that.
He gives money to the critical mineral industry to supposedly make a business here in the north, yet he cuts the cost of gasoline so it is cheaper to drive gas powered cars. Why not subsidise electric car purchases like they do in just about every other province, so they sell more, so costs go down for the rest of us who can’t now afford electric vehicles ? Stealing from Peter to pay Paul ,never works for finances. To repeat, you don’t spend money to destroy the other side of the equation, he is also funding. Or another example, paying half a billion dollars (the last estimate I read) to accelerate the sale of booze in gas stations and convenience stores. It was to happen a few months later, but he pays our tax money to make it happen faster. That money could have hired 500 nurses we need. Sorry for this one he gets a F minus.
Science; Oh yes, the Science Centre. Thousands of children went there and many were inspired to become, engineers, doctors, scientists. The building was getting old, but again science tells us, it is better to repair an old building rather than tear it down, creating huge amounts of garbage and losing all that energy used to build the place in the first place. It was a place respected and enjoyed by many generations in the GTA. I brought my own kids there several times But a funny thing happened on the way to the Science Centre, it was closed, due to “serious structural issues”. Again he didn’t study very hard, as his teachers and text books would have told him that he needs an engineer’s opinion. “One (roof) panel is (listed as) critical condition, 90 per cent are in good shape,” said Dr. Adil Shamji, “It doesn’t say the roof is in imminent danger of collapse – 0ne panel needs to be repaired urgently.” One panel. Do your research before you do anything.Another F
Field Trips; This is one I thought could never apply, but even so, the Ford Government managed to do it again. Ford decided to close Ontario Place, another provincial icon and convert it to a health spa for rich people and subsidise it with your tax dollars. To quote the Province’s Auditor General, “the cost of the Ford government's redevelopment of Ontario Place has ballooned by more than $1.8 billion and the process for selecting new tenants for the prized lakefront property wasn't transparent or fair “, so again, our hard earned tax dollars, went to Ford’s rich friends. Do you realise you could build three large hospitals for that. Yet another F
Let’s pretend Ford is in Grade 9, so we aren’t expecting much.Geography; Are his decisions based on fact, or using professional experts for advice, or just what looks good on paper ? Let’s see, developing the greenbelt to put up lots of homes sounds great, but the realities are that essentially every related professional is up in arms since it is breaking the number one rule of urban planning. It promotes urban sprawl ! Cities already have infra structure (roads, schools, shopping, water, gas, etc and the obvious, that is where people work), so essentially a failing grade because just the servicing alone would cost millions to provide. Let alone the long commutes this would cause and mess up all those highways he wants to build. That scheme was also proposing a lot of single family homes, which cost more than a million in the GTA, so the people who really NEED the housing, could never afford to live there. The correct answer is densification. Sorry FNEXT ...
Civics; (Essentially about the geopolitical state of Canada and the world, with a citizen’s perspective on rights, and duties)Does our student put citizens ahead of his political ambitions ? Does he deliver on what he promises ? Does he prioritize the state of health care, education, housing for the average person ? Does the Premier call a $180 million dollar election, when the work at hand is to counter Trump's threats to the very existence of this country, not spend time on the election trail wanting to make good on his perceived majority. (and why does he call it Team Am-Can !!!! For any Canadian it’s Team CANADA ! He just put America FIRST. Sorry another F minus
Mathematics; He gives huge numbers that he says he is spending. Even if more than previous governments, you all know out money is not going far these days with inflation. He is actually giving less for critical work. Look at health care. He hires private companies to do work that our government funded system could do, yet at a higher cost to do so. Therefore, with less money going to our universal system and more to private companies for the same work, he is making health care more expensive and degrading what our system used to do. Look, emergency wards closing in small towns near to us. Waiting times are huge at the SAH. To be continued....
Considering that the USA is becoming more alienated by every nation who believe in true democracies and the rule of law, the ability of that foreign power's ability to regulate how and where Canada can utilise our aircraft, would regulate us to a very subservient position. Additionally, the Saab has been lauded recently as a superior aircraft while operating in an environment such as ours. Weighing both perspectives, anyone who would support America's F35, does not have the best interests of Canada as a priority.
Yes the ice age came and went, at a snails pace. We see change in a mere hundred years, not thousands and thousands of years. Also, the comment assuming the greenhouse gases comes from the east, is suspect. Yes, much comes from China, but our "friends" to the south, contribute the second most on earth, yet Trump wants it increase it, meaning we will be living next door to belching oven. "The United States produced 5.2 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2020, the second largest in the world, after greenhouse gas emissions by China and among the countries with the highest greenhouse gas emissions per person." The USA's current downward spiral will worsen those statistics. The USA's lack of science-based leadership will also discourage other countries to follow suit, causing even a faster decay of the atmosphere than previous feared. Again, many thousand years of damage, all within a lifetime ! We're Canadian, so let's be better !
The two largest provinces that are afraid of Trump are now Ontario and Alberta. Both have the trump cards to win this, yet they are afraid to play a real trump, against the Trump. Ford and Smith, could be heroes, yet they are ready to capitulate. Trump admitted that he will take us not by bombs and tanks, but by destroying our economy. Therefore, we are actually in the same situation as the Ukraine and Putin. If Zelenskyy, did the same, he would have lost after a week. Yet he's still fighting for his country and we must stand together for ours. Our nationhood is at stake. I don't want to live under the gun violence, greed, lack of health care for those who can not afford it (an article today stated the average insured American pays $24,000usd a year, with a $3800 deductible, but a huge percentage have none at all) and the warmongering, regressive and oppressive totalitarian state of the USA. We want the true freedom of Canada, not the fairy tale of America.
After Musk's brownshirts, essentially closed down the USA Institute for Peace today, I hope the meat was well past it's due date and has a certain odour. Displays of fear mongering, misuse of power and disrespect like this, echo the way Adolf started his tyranny.
