Shoplifting is wrong and illegal but I don’t get why the article says they are being unsafe. They aren’t armed robbers, they are just walking out of the store without paying for things. Still wrong, but that has nothing to do with safety
@Wondering Why I’ve never been in a car accident but I always wear my seat belt. Just because something bad hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean we can’t do something to make it safer proactively rather than reactively
I’m glad that they are bringing this service back. That being said, “reliable heating” and wifi shouldn’t be seen as a big win. This is a bare minimum and is a good representation of how far behind we are compared to other countries with rail services
EVs will absolutely cause more wear and tear on the roads. That being said, the gas tax doesn’t cover anything close to the cost of roads and gas cars have other negative impacts like noise and air pollution
The provincial government has given school boards less and less money every year and expect things to get better because the tweak something here and there. If they actually want score to improve, there needs to be fundamental changes like increasing funding and reducing class sizes by hiring more teachers. Everything else is just lip service
Solar is a famously inexpensive form of power to generate so even if the upfront installation cost might be a little expensive, the long term benefits would be better
Gas taxes don’t come anywhere close to covering the cost of roads. So people who don’t own cars/drive are actually subsidizing drivers, not the other way around
Agreed! The space would be much better used if it was given back to park users. That covered seating area would actually be useful and the whole area could have more vendors for special events that happen in the park
What is unfortunate about this article is that it puts all the cost associated with widening the road onto the addition of bike lanes when they are also adding a turning lane. If you added both of those, the width of the road would double and the cost would go up quite a bit. Bike lanes aren’t adding the cost, it’s the addition of 2 types of lanes which is doing that. It’s fine to disagree with adding bike lanes but it isn’t providing an honest perspective on the issue which is disappointing
The intention wasn’t to increase parking revenue. The purpose of these new parking spots is to provide additional parking spaces as they start the Mississauga reconstruction (which will temporarily remove many spots at a time) and to be a passive traffic calming measure to reduce speeds
