Well, wont this be great. Perhaps this (otherwise unemployable) council ought to strive to not have this project as another of its underthought, misguided, without the possibility of negative consequence decisions. I was at UoG many moons ago...imagine having 1200+ students at this proximity to our Downtown. Think this one through...I gotta get outta here.
The real issue is Guelph City Council are simply easily taken in, as are (were) most every municipality, by these snake oil salesmen / saleswomen (better get that one right), who plead, "what about the children," when it is all gas lighting so they can get their 91.4%...imagine someone comes to your house offering that kind of deal...too good to be true, then not true. But alas, the folly of Guelph Council continues...like their voting, like the busses...just pathetic.
Nice one Guelph. Minimum 47 more cars on ill prepared roads in our neck of the woods. Approved variances, by cognitively vacant city staff, reduce setbacks by not less than 25% up to 50%...but, hey, 47 new property tax rolls...which will amount to zero impact on current or future taxpayers. Foresight is a thing of the past.
Weird....2024 financial statements show total revenue of $900,013...and, wages ate up $583,558 of those revenues, maybe handouts ought to be reduced - both on the wages side and meals side...
The author of this propagates the artists' Liberal (and negative) views of Conservative people under the guise of news. Since when was "news" a platform for commentary and advocacy. Just give me the news and not all this Liberal slanted mockery of Conservatives. This ought to be an x post vs on GuelphToday.
Reading this foolish City's budget appears purposely vague - first thing. Then to have these untrained, under educated, irresponsible, consequence immune, fiscally inept, barely elected (not even 30,000 votes cast in most recent municipal elections) officials now tell us "we can fix Sleeman Centre's losses" (of nearly $4,000 per day!) can only be taken as a joke. What a place that we can let this happen. Mayor got just above 20,000 votes in 2022 and no councilor over 3,500 votes. And, on the heels of seeking raises.
Right, so the vendor convinces council, (who acts for their constituents, (of whom I would guess zero asked for the cameras)), to install for safety. And, the vendor gets $750K in 6 weeks, and the dramatic decrease in injuries or deaths are....zero. So, compliance to the speed limits is now the only metric, on which the vendor will receive over $100K per week. What a gig.
If the City is the same as the County, the installer / vendor gets 60% of the ticket. I've noticed so so so many less deaths by car in Guelph since this implementation. How is it my taxes pay for the road, pay for the Council, pay for the Police, pay for the School, then...pay (and this is fact) $80 for doing 41 in a 30!
Staggeringly authoritative. My land I paid for. I paid for the tree. I planted it 20 years ago. Our insurance salesman Mayor says I cannot cut it down.
Huh...protest announced, mind changed....as i write that, it sounds appropriate I think - listen to your constituents, REGARDLESS of your own opinion. Now, the real matter at hand...I will plow them for the $650,000. No sleep, no eat for 5 months and i will plow them. Remember the Homer: "That name again is Mr. Plow."
You are too kind. What it is, is an inept, contemptuous lack of stewardship and abandonment of fiduciary duty. Not necessarily the fault of the under-educated employees, but the responsibility of the under qualified, gladhandy, say-anything-to-get-the-most-votes "politicians" on Council.
