Hmmm Not sure opening an American company in Canada is a wise decision anymore. I refuse to give the only country to ever threaten our sovereignty, a single nickle.
Wonderful. As a senior, my cost of living increase for 2026 was 2%, council wants 2.6% and the city wants 4%. Think there's a problem with that? Guess having over priced art galleries, sports venues and other frivolous expenses are worth putting our seniors on the street or relying on food banks. Thanks council, great job representing the people of the city.
Between federal, Provincial and municipal taxes, and general cost of living, I'm now down to 1 and sometimes 2 meals a day, but knowing it's being spent on important things like this makes the malnutrition and slow starvation all worth it. Thank God our politicians know what's best for us.
If she didn't learn to clean up her act after being sanctioned once, why does council think she'll learn from training. As usual, council thinks they know more than the experts. If you're going to ignore your integrity commission, then stop pretending and just disband them.
As a professional forester, I've always wondered why this city insists on planting non native tree species when we have an abundance of native species which would be cheaper and have higher survivability rates.I once had a city crew who were cutting down a nearly dead white birch, leave a sucker. The sucker turned into a very healthy sapling. Upon informing the city forester what had been done, they immediately cut down the tree and planted a non native species. How does this make any sense economically or environmentally? If we planted pin cherry, we get trees that don't get too large, provide natural forage for birds, and save $ due to survivability.
Who in their right mind would wander around down there after dark with all the druggies out in full force, regardless of how pretty the new lights are. Between messed up parking, cockeyed streets and a bunch of new one way streets, I have stopped shopping down there. Just turn it into a walking mall similar to Calgary's Stevens Avenue mall and be done.
This just keeps getting better. As a senior, I was notified that my cost of living increase for 2026 was 2%, but the city's increase is 4.4%. We're supposed to "tighten our belt" but it seems the city has an ever expanding belt. At this rate, I'm going to have to sell that belt to pay the city what they need for their overpriced, unnecessary pet projects. Ok councilors, you're being paid to represent the people who voted you in. Time to start earning your pay (which is higher than my pension btw).
Ok, so nobody knows how to deal with homelessness but somehow, they can come up with a price tag. Just love how free and easy people are with asking for government funding like those are government dollars and not tax dollars coming from you and I.
Any fire capable of emitting burning embers has the potential of starting an unplanned fire. But you're technically correct. A firepit has never started a fire, but if you decide to have fire in the pit, well that's another story lol.
I walk about my surrounding neighbourhood picking up trash ar least twice a week. I get at least one trash bag filled each week. I don't see anybody from the city, offering to supply bags or a grabber and occasionally have to make a trip to the dump because I'm over my 2 bag limit (thus having to pay a tipping fee). Here's my suggestion City of Thunder Bay. Instead of some "one off", grand gesture, perhaps providing some support for those of us trying to maintain a clean neighbourhood. The VAST majority of trash is coming from Timmy's, McDonald's and Circle K. Where is their social responsibility, besides contributing the trash I pick up? They don't even clean up their own property, instead, just letting it blow onto surrounding streets and yards, making it someone else's problem. You want a clean city? Then do something about it besides flapping your lips City of Thunder Bay.
