Tristan Johnson, Smoke and mirrors. Immigrants moving to Canada and then isolating themselves in neighborhoods with only friends from the old country, children attending schools where the language and customs from their old country prevail, community centres that excluded and the list goes on and on. So feed that nonsense to someone else. You want to get along in your new neighbourhood then speak the language and become friends with your neighbors and send your kids to our schools. Last point. Please don't try and change Canada to what you think it should be. We are doing quite nicely thank you.

Council should just get out of the way , CarFax should make as good f deal as they can with Fahri for a big space need at the old but beautiful Westmount Mall . It May need renovation or a rebuild of some area but concentrating and insisting on our Downtown as the place to be in unwarranted . Act now before the tenant looks even further afield and London looses out completely .

“Sleep till we’re hungry and eat till we’re tired”. A London firefighter quoted this mantra to me. I know several of them and live near a fire station. They might leave the “hall” once or twice in a 24 hr shift and it’s usually not for long. Their dispatcher literally wakes them up after their 8 hrs of sleep to tell them it’s time to go home. Most of their day is spent lounging at the station playing games, watching TV, grocery shopping. A captain is always nearby to tell them what to do in case a decision has to be made. One of those captains was recently promoted having never responded to an actual fire. They have a great PR system that makes to make us believe they are doing heroic things every day. The fact that they claim to be under similar stress as a nurse or police officer is ridiculous. We could pay them half this salary and people would still line up to apply. Where does this end??

They are given a retroactive 6% raise per year for 2024 and 2025. Crazy raise % for a job that there is intense competition for. They are currently hiring right now and will have enough qualified applicants to replace the entire force. However, I'm sure they will have 3-400 people and hire 4. It is a great job, and they do put their lives on the line, but the amount of people who are willing, able, and qualified to do this job does not equate to making this much money. Police are having a tough time getting people to apply, their job is much more stressful with no 24 hour shifts. Why should firefighters get money equal to police?

Smythe, your vehicle being trapped does not mean YOU are trapped. Get rides from those friends making deliveries. Even if the notice arrived late, it was still before the work started. You had opportunity to move your SUV.
